To provide all NEIU students—but especially transfers—with an important background and set of skills and experiences to complement any major, the English department offers an18 credit minor degree, with a maximum of 9 credit hours transferred from other institutions. Adding a credential in English will help NEIU students excel in any major and distinguish themselves from others both in their coursework and later on the job market. While the traditional skills taught in all our courses--writing, research, and oral communication--are always in demand, courses in English offer additional soft skills of empathy and cultural awareness that our alumni have often reported as keys to their success.
*NOTES:
1) General Education courses (ENGL 201, 202, 203, 209) or their equivalents at other institutions do not count toward the Minor.
2) Creative Writing Minors who are not also ENGL majors may use two courses from their CW Minor toward the completion of this program as part of a double minor.
