Northeastern Illinois University's Graduate Certificate in STEM Teacher Mentorship and Leadership prepares experienced science, technology, engineering and math teachers to mentor, develop and support new middle and secondary level STEM educators. Approaches used within the program center place-based and culturally responsive learning as well as restorative justice practices. The program requires students to complete 24 credits in a course sequence that draws from multiple programs in the Colleges of Education and Arts and Sciences.
Individuals who wish to study in the Graduate Certificate in STEM Teacher Mentorship and Leadership program must fulfill the requirements for admission to the College of Graduate Studies & Research and apply to the STEM Teacher Mentorship and Leadership Graduate Certificate program. Requirements to the College of Graduate Studies & Research are:
1. Bachelor’s degree completed with a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 3.0. and a valid Professional Educator License with an endorsement in math or science is required with submission.
2. Possess an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
3. A completed graduate application accompanied by a $30 fee.
Additionally, the STEM Teacher Mentorship and Leadership Graduate Certificate program requirements are:
1. A minimum of three full-time years of prior teaching experience.
2. A current résumé.
2. Two letters of recommendation (colleague, student, and/or principal).
3. Essay responses (applicants will be provided with prompt questions).
4. Interview (virtual or in person).
An application is reviewed only if all application materials are received by Graduate Admissions by the deadline date for the semester indicated on the application.
The STEM Teacher Mentorship and Leadership Graduate Certificate requires 24 graduate credits.
