undergraduate certificate in tesol
The Undergraduate Certificate in TESOL allows students enrolled in the Minor in TESOL to earn a recognizable credential for teaching English to English Language Learners in the US and abroad. The program has two tracks. The first track (which includes TESL 399) is for Education majors leading to a State of Illinois ESL Endorsement and supplemented by the Certificate. The second track (which includes TESL 465) is for non-education majors teaching in a variety of situations including adult education.
The Undergraduate Certificate in TESOL is open to all undergraduate students that have reached sophomore standing and are working toward a Baccalaureate degree in any major field. The certificate will be awarded to those students completing the TESOL minor who additionally complete TESL 399 (ESL Endorsement and Certificate track) or TESL 465 (Certificate-only track). The credential will be awarded upon completion of the Certificate requirements and the Baccalaureate degree.
Program completion requires the completion of a Baccalaureate degree and successful completion (grade of 'C' or higher) of 7 TESL courses. The first 6 courses are the same as the Minor in TESOL. The Certificate requires the addition of either an ESL Clinicals course (TESL 399) or ESL Practicum (TESL 465).
